The human intellect, like that of the physical body, can wither if not properly and constantly nourished. We are counseled to study from "the best books words of wisdom" (D&C 88:118). Learning from the best sources cultivates a purer, more active mind better capable of interpreting and analyzing the world around us and also helps us recognize our divine potential within. Hugh B. Brown counseled us through the following, "Learn to stretch your minds by constant preparation, enrich your spirits by constant prayer, and increase your stature by companionship with great people and great books. Thus may your potential God-like status become real and actual through ever-increasing intelligence, which is the glory of God." Russell M. Nelson regarded the human intellect as "sacred" and that we have a responsibility to pursue and continue our education which can best "serve [our] family and society." We need to take advantage of the many opportunities to increase our knowledge and understanding. BYU offers a program for continuing education, different training programs, and seminars to further skills in certain areas. |
