1. Who can receive a cash-back incentive?
Because the cash-back incentive program is actually a refund of insurance premium, only full-time BYU employees and their spouses, who are covered by a qualifying health insurance plan from DMBA or Altius are eligible. This means part-time employees, and retirees, and their spouses are not eligible.
2. What is the difference between the ‘DMBA Wellness Program' and the ‘BYU Wellness Program'?
DMBA is an insurance company that services several different businesses. Because they are interested in improving people's health and in controlling insurance costs they have developed a Wellness Program with a cash back incentive to offer all their clients (regardless of their employer). Since BYU has a well established Wellness Program in place, DMBA is pleased to allow participation in the BYU Wellness Program fulfill the requirements of the DMBA Wellness Program.
The DMBA program has 6 health challenges throughout the year, each lasting 2 months. The challenges require participants to set a personal exercise goal, along with a side goal given from DMBA (such as eating a healthy breakfast, etc.) Participants then track the fulfillment of their goals on paper. At the end of the challenge participants notify DMBA if their goals were achieved at 80% success rate or better.
The BYU health challenges mirror those of DMBA, but BYU gives variety to the challenges by adding themes, competition, online tracking for most events, and by setting the exercise and health focuses for most challenges. The 80% success rate is built into the BYU challenges so participants who successfully complete the challenge will automatically receive credit for the challenge.
It is recommended that BYU employees participate in one of the programs, not both.
3. Can I earn prizes from both the DMBA and BYU Wellness Programs?
NO! This is because DMBA funds the challenge prize incentives of both programs for all qualifying DMBA and Altius employees and their spouses. DMBA has an allotted amount of money set aside for each qualifying participant. If a participant receives a prize from the BYU Wellness Program, the participant has drawn down their allotted prize money and cannot draw it down again by receiving an additional prize through the DMBA sponsored program and vise versa.
4. Can I earn both a prize and the cash-back incentive?
Yes! Everyone who completes the health challenges is eligible for a prize. If you are also eligible for the cash-back incentive, you will receive both a prize after each challenge and the cash-back at the end of the year.
5. What if I have a health limitation and can't do the requirements of the Challenge?
If, due to health reasons, you are unable to fulfill the requirements of a current challenge, you may modify it to meet your personal health situation. We hope your modifications will still reflect the spirit of the challenge by motivating you to set goals that will stretch you and help you implement good health practices. (Examples of appropriate goal substitutions: If you have a broken leg and can't do a walking challenge you could substitute it for chair aerobics or strength training. If you are on a gluten free diet and the challenge requirements are to eat whole grain products, you could substitute that portion of the challenge with eating more fruits and vegetables.) You are always welcome to call and talk with a Wellness Coordinator to work out an appropriate substitution.
6. When and how do I receive my cash back incentive?
Throughout the year, qualified participants who have taken the PHA and/or successfully completed one or more health challenge, have build up a bank of money they are eligible to receive from DMBA. This money will be mailed to them at the end of January or the first part of February following the year the PHA and/or challenges were completed. The check will be mailed to them directly to the address they have listed with DMBA or Altius.
7. Can spouses participate in the BYU Wellness Program, including the challenges?
Yes! Spouses may participate in the BYU Wellness Program, including the health challenges. Spouses who are covered by the employee's DMBA or Altius health insurance plan may also receive a cash-back incentive for challenges successfully completed.
