Body mass index (BMI) is a measure of body fat based on height and weight that applies to both adult men and women.


Following are two methods for calculating your BMI:

BMI Categories:
Underweight = <18.5
Normal weight = 18.5-24.9
Overweight = 25-29.9
Obese = BMI of 30 or greater



Individuals with a BMI of 27-34 should aim for a weight loss of 0.5-1 lb. per week
Individuals with a BMI of 35 or greater should aim for a weight loss of 1-2 lbs. per week

This rate of weight loss should only be continued for about six months, after which one should focus on weight maintenance.
